Astorga is a custom pool builder serving Cypress, including Bridgeland, Towne Lake, Fairfield, Coles Crossing, and Cypress Creek Lakes. We plan and build custom gunite pools in Cypress, permitted through Harris County, engineered for genuinely expansive clay, and sequenced through master-planned architectural review without drama.
What we build in Cypress
- Custom gunite pools, designed for the lot and engineered for the clay under it.
- Pool and spa combinations, with the spa built as part of the same shell.
- Small and plunge pools for the tighter lots in newer sections.
- Outdoor kitchens and covered patios, planned with the pool or on their own.
- Pool remodeling and renovation for the established neighborhoods.
Every project includes the engineered plans, the Harris County permit, and your community’s architectural submission. Those are our job, not your errand.
Permits: Harris County, precisely
Cypress is unincorporated, so pools permit through the Harris County Office of the County Engineer: roughly ten business days of plan review, a six-month permit window, and floodplain-specific requirements where maps apply, including rules for where excavated fill can go. No city hall, no zoning board; just county process handled properly.
The clay under Cypress is the real thing
USDA soil surveys put much of this area on clay-rich series. Lake Charles runs 45–60% clay, a soil that visibly cracks open in dry months and swells shut in wet ones, and parts of the area carry a seasonal perched water table. That’s not trivia; it’s the engineering brief. Shell structure, steel, decking joints, and drainage are designed for movement, which is why “engineered for your lot” is the first promise on our process page. Our clay soil guide explains what that engineering involves.
Master-planned review, sequenced honestly
Bridgeland’s villages, Towne Lake’s lake-oriented sections, Fairfield, Coles Crossing, Cypress Creek Lakes. Cypress’s communities run real design review, and their municipal utility districts supply the water your pool will eventually hold. We prepare the architectural submission, answer committee questions, and flag the fill conversation with your district before startup week.
Two of these are worth naming. Bridgeland publishes written modification design guidelines for its Lakeland Village association, so the submission is a documented process with real paperwork. Towne Lake’s association is professionally managed on site, which means a real review window to plan around. Cypress Creek Lakes’ water district goes as far as publishing notices about pool fills running through the meter, which is the fill conversation we have with your district before we start.
Designing for young-tree, open-sky lots
Newer sections here mean open sun and visible fence lines: shade structures earn their keep, equipment screening matters to the view from the kitchen window, and privacy planting gets planned with the hardscape. The SERP-famous “resort backyard” photo is easy; a Cypress backyard that’s comfortable at 4 p.m. in August is design.
What a pool costs in Cypress
Pool pricing here follows the same drivers as the rest of Greater Houston: size and perimeter, interior finish, decking, equipment, features, and the spa decision. We publish sourced market ranges and what moves them on the Houston pool cost page rather than inventing a Cypress-only number. The most common question after size is the spa; what a pool with a spa costs answers it with published figures. What is specific to Cypress is the ground: shell engineering for expansive clay and drainage that expects a perched water table are design decisions here, not upgrades.
Before you call, two guides are worth ten minutes: what size pool fits your backyard, which shows how to read your survey, and the best time to start a build. The rest of the common questions are in our pool building FAQ.
Common questions
Do you build pools in Bridgeland or Towne Lake?
Yes. Both are in our Cypress service area, and both run community design review before exterior work starts: Bridgeland publishes written modification design guidelines for its Lakeland Village association, and Towne Lake’s community association is professionally managed on site. A pool in either needs the Harris County permit and the community’s written approval. We prepare both submissions as part of the project and build the review window into the schedule. The same applies across Fairfield, Coles Crossing, and Cypress Creek Lakes.
Who issues pool permits in Cypress?
Cypress is unincorporated Harris County, so residential in-ground pools are permitted through the Harris County Office of the County Engineer. Plan review runs about ten business days and a permit stays valid for six months. Floodplain lots add an as-built elevation certificate and inspection, and county floodplain rules govern what happens to excavated fill. We handle the filing and sequence it into the schedule.
What does Cypress’s expansive clay mean for my pool?
Much of this area sits on true expansive clay. USDA soil surveys classify local series like Lake Charles at 45–60% clay, with surface cracks that stay open for weeks in dry seasons. That movement is exactly what pool structural engineering is for: steel schedules and shell design account for the soil your yard actually has, not a brochure’s.
Do MUDs and HOAs in Cypress affect pool projects?
Both, in normal ways. Master-planned communities like Bridgeland, Towne Lake, Fairfield, Coles Crossing, and Cypress Creek Lakes run architectural review before construction, and their utility districts notice pool fills: one local MUD published a “is your pool fill running?” usage advisory in July 2026. We prepare the ACC submission and tell you what to expect from your district when it’s time to fill.
What if my Cypress lot touches a floodplain?
The Cypress Creek watershed is large and heavily studied, and the county’s floodplain rules are specific: elevation-aware design, an as-built certificate, and documented handling of excavated dirt. It’s paperwork we know how to carry, and design discipline your deck elevations will be glad for.
